The word "Basmati" means "the fragrant one" in Hindi and is rightly considered by rice lovers around the world to be the Prince Of Rice, among 1400 varieties of rice available in the world.

"Basmati" is a premium and elite variety of long grain rice, grown in India. It is famous all over the world for its aroma, fragrance, authentic flavor and outstanding taste. The literal meaning of Basmati is "the fragrant one". It is derived from Sanskrit, One of the ancient languages of the world.

India is the world's largest cultivator and exporter of Basmati Rice. Basmati Rice is primarily grown through paddy field farming in the most fertile fields in Punjab and other states of North India. Identifying Basmati Rice has been likened to identifying of diamond, as it needs an understanding & appreciation of high taste. Basmati grains are shaped like a sword; and post cooking each grain elongates at least twice of its original size. The rich and unique aroma is another way by which one can identify true basmati rice.

All other varieties of rice do not match the above qualities and non-basmati rice is generally identified by its random sizes and shapes. Basmati has a fine aromatic flavor and the grains are long and slender. The grain is aged for a certain period of time to enhance its distinctive aroma. Basmati is excellent in almost any savory rice dish and is perfect for countless rice recipes across the globe. It is a food that feeds half the population of the world.
